India Today: Basic Freedoms Threatened as Usual

I was born in India (and also, on occasion, work on Indian philosophy). Before giving up Indian citizenship I was involved as part of the secular resistance to religious extremism, particularly Hindutva on which I will have much to say eventually.

The purpose of this short post is to draw attention to a remarkable story from BBC of how a journalist in the state of Manipur has been jailed for a year without trial for Facebook posts criticizing the government of the state. (The state is ruled by the Hindu nationalist BJP that also is in power at the federal level.)
