Whose Environmentalism? (2008): this is not exactly a paper in progress. It was originally written as a response to Shellenberger and Nordhaus’ (2004) Break Through to appear in a volume edited by Bill Chaloupka, Jay Odenbaugh, and Jim Proctor with the title Post-Environmentalism: Debating and Extending the Death of Environmentalism Thesis. The volume never appeared and many of the themes in this paper are now dated even though the idea of subaltern environmentalism continues to have merit (in my view) and should be worked out.
